Proffessor Oak happens to be Gary Oak's grandfather.  He is the expert on Pokemon in the town of Pallet.  He was the one who gave Ash his Pikachu and Gary and the other trainers(??don't know what pokemon??) their starter pokemon.  Of course he can be a little weird like making poetry with Ash's Krabby(^_^!)which Gary's Krabby was much much much much bigger than Ash's(why is that?)Oh well, he always encourage Ash and the other trainers to become really good Pokemon trainers.  Obvious thats he's old and....well who knows.  You don't really see Professor Oak that much only when he's calling or when he gets a pokemon from Ash.
